Demystifying so-called ‘Intelligent’ technologies and what they mean for us
‘Intelligent’ systems that use Artificial Neural Networks influence daily decisions for all of us, from phone access via facial recognition to mortgage approvals. Buzzwords and jargon have drawn a veil between the general public and the fundamentals of how these decisions are made. The basics are rooted in simple concepts from GCSE Maths, like the equation Y= mX + C. This foundation helps us grasp Neural Network architecture, training, and learning without any requirement on technical expertise. Understanding these fundamentals reveals the diverse applications and inherent issues around the use of AI, emphasising the importance of data quality and regulation in the progression of the technology.
