Imposter Syndrome, Diversity in Technology – The Role of Mentorship and Allyship

According to government-funded growth network Tech Nation, nearly three million people, or 9% of the UK workforce, are employed in the UK tech industry. Just 26% of those in the tech workforce are women. It is therefore no wonder that those few women who are employed in the tech workforce (and who are in senior roles) suffer from Imposter Syndrome. They don’t look like their colleagues, they don’t think like their colleagues, they are very much in the minority – and that is exactly why we as an industry need to employ more of them and be allies as they navigate the complex world in which they operate.

Suzanne will explore : What exactly is imposter syndrome and how does it manifest itself. How do mentors and allies provide support and help us overcome imposter syndrome – what does good mentorship look like. How can the technology industry encourage diversity, not only gender diversity, but cognitive diversity – and work to flatten the curve of parity that exists today.
